My name is Jonas J. Smith, and I am asking for your support as an independent candidate in the 2021 federal election.

I am very grateful for the experience I gained in the 2019 election campaign and for Yukoners’ overwhelming encouragement to run as an independent this time.

For those of you who don’t know me, I am the third generation in my family to call the Yukon home, and am proud to be raising the fourth here along with my wife Erika, in the Whitehorse area.

Professionally, I am a long-standing advocate for a responsible mining industry and a strong and sustainable private sector in the territory, so that future generations of Yukoners may enjoy both quality career choices as well as an environment that is second to none.

Previously, I spent decades in the hospitality industry working in the kinds of small businesses that have been deeply affected by the events of the last year and a half, and understand our urgent need to safely reopen the economy and return to normal.

I am a volunteer board member with the Every Student, Every Day student attendance charity, a lifelong advocate for the arts, and am committed to partnership-building between citizens, industry and all levels of government.

The time has come for a different approach: in order to adapt to our changing world, we need to work together to invest in housing, clean energy, healthcare and mental health support.

As an independent I can present a uniquely Yukon voice in Parliament and work to support the policies that best align with Yukoners’ priorities, no matter which party forms government.

Whether your family came over the Beringia land bridge, the Chilkoot pass, or you just moved here last week, this territory is our home and you deserve a representative in Ottawa that puts your interests first.

From one Yukoner to another, I am asking for your support on election day.

Let’s make history together, on September 20th, please vote Jonas J. Smith independent for a better Yukon.
