I am 100 per cent opposed to vaccine passports and vaccine mandates.
I believe in freedom of choice. I believe citizens of a free nation should not be required to undergo medical treatments, disclose their confidential medical information, or face coercive measures to keep their jobs, freely interact in society or travel within our own country, particularly in the north where the lines between privilege and necessity are less defined.
In the Yukon context, we are among the highest-vaccinated populations in the world, with the vast majority of our eligible population protected against COVID-19. Yet there are still many Yukoners, several thousand in fact, who have not been vaccinated for a variety of medical, religious and personal reasons. I find it very disturbing that our society is even having the conversation about discriminating against our neighbors, family members and friends, a large number of whom are Yukon First Nations citizens.
Our country needs less discrimination, not more. There has to be a better way and if elected as the Yukon’s next Member of Parliament, I will advocate for all Yukoners; not only vaccinated ones.
